Katharine M. Thompson, DVM, DABVP – Medical Director
Dr. Katie is the medical director of VCF, and responsible for all medical protocols at VCF. After graduating from Washington State University with a DVM in 1996, she practiced small animal medicine in several clinics before opening VCF in 2007 with her husband Don. Most recently in 2012, she became a diplomat of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. She brings both compassion and experience to every situation; and her boarded status ensures that your pet is being treated by the best that medicine offers. Dr. Katie continues to educate other veterinarians as an instructor throughout the country She continues to gain information that benefits the pets which visit our clinic. She is a proud mother to Cameron and Joshua, and gives her pet love to Jessie her border collie. When not worrying about the health of every patient she sees, Katie enjoys spending time with family and playing both competitive and recreational paintball.
Karla – Veterinary Lead Nurse
With a BA from USF and 8 years experience as a veterinary technician, Karla is a Plant City local who is never without a smile. She shares her home with her husband, their 4-legged children & Whiskas the fish. Her love of animals allows her to have a job that she truly enjoys. Karla practices a live and learn attitude where she gets to educate clients and is also able to discover something new for herself every day. Her eclectic taste runs the gamut from being a movie junkie, a comic book collector, a video gamer, to an avid reader. She is also VCF’s in-house volunteer for our “Adopt-A-Pet” Days. She is married to the love of her life and is the proud aunt to her niece and nephew.
Amber – Lead Veterinary Nurse
Amber currently lives in Riverview and shares her home with her two cats Rodeo & Kip. Amber always knew she wanted to work with animals. , Amber pursued her dream of working with animals when she was 18 as a veterinary technician, as well as pet sitting and pet walking. Her job allows her to see the animals she loves on a daily basis and when not at work, she may be competing in pool tournaments, scrapbooking, boating, waterskiing or sitting quietly on the beach reading and relaxing.
Traci, CVT – Lead Veterinary Nurse
Christian – Veterinary Nurse
As the son and brother of Air Force Veterans, Christian is in training to become a veterinary nurse. Currently, he is also our resident “maintenance man.” A student at HCC and pet parent to Buster and Bella, Christian plans to have a career that would allow him to work with and help animals. Having been a drummer for over 10 years, Christian also has an affinity for sports either watching or participating in hockey, paintball, football or soccer and enjoys watching and discussing Formula One racing with his older brother.
Alyssa – Veterinary Nurse
Alyssa is originally from St.Petersburg but now resides in Riverview. She has three dogs Cocoa, Daisy and Loki along with two cats Speedy and Dusty. In her free time she enjoys hunting and fishing.
