Nationwide Contest Awards Grand Prize to Dr. Katie Thompson, DVM

What do you get when you combine skilled veterinarians with cherished patients and then add superb medical diagnostics performed on-site?... …A winning situation!

Dr. Katie Thompson’s clients have proven to be as devoted to her as their veterinarian as she is committed to providing exceptional care to her patients. They consistently refer friends and family to her clinic. Many clients travel uncommon distances in order to bring their animals to her at the Veterinary Center at Fishhawk. It was these friends and these patients that Dr. Katie thought of back in March 2007 as she and her husband, Don, compared lab equipment options for their new clinic, VCF, in Lithia.

They concluded their research by selecting IDEXX lab technology. IDEXX Laboratories operates worldwide with locations in Africa, Japan, Europe and elsewhere. Dr. Katie and Dr. Tanya, her associate, now rely on these devices for fast, accurate analyses. “Our patients benefit wonderfully from this in-house capability, but I never imagined that our clinic might benefit in such a way as the IDEXX Suite Stories Contest offered,” asserts Dr. Katie.

Dr. Katie was encouraged to enter the nationwide essay contest sponsored by IDEXX which accepted original works describing how an in-house laboratory impacted one’s patients.  Over 600 entries were written and submitted from veterinary offices throughout the country. The Grand Prize consisted of a suite of Next-Generation IDEXX VetLab products worth $50,000. Dr. Katie’s article was selected by a panel of 12 judges holding a variety of impressive credentials within the field of veterinary medicine.

She was awarded the Grand Prize just before Thanksgiving.

“I may never have entered the Suite Stories Contest if not urged by our IDEXX Instrument Rep.,” claims Dr. Katie, “but then I thought of Tonka, and I knew I had to enter.” Tonka is a beloved old friend and patient with Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia.
